discord.py channel/category.position question

Script Kiddie!
is anyone familiar with discord.py and can tell me how channel/category positions work? i would be very happy since im printing me all the channels/categories + the position attribute but most of these channels/categories have the same position even tho they are all not in any categories. i cant find anything about that.
