connecting html and css frontend to javascript/express backend for login system

so basically i have this setup with a javascript/express backend with like a bunch of libraries and stuff but it works but only using the .ejs file extension, upon pasting in my html code into it, it doesnt seem to work with css! i am very new to this backend and frontend stuff and i am hoping someone can help me!
