Is Java still worth learning?

Is Java still worth learning if you have no intention of going into the workplace? Since I'm sure it's well used in many corporations, but I've seen alternatives (e.g. Haxe) which can compile to Java ByteCode and have their own perks which can make it easier to code personal projects. I've always heard of Java's flaws (e.g. bloated syntax public static void main(String[] args), so I might be unknowingly biased (but I'm sure they all have their own purpose to provide additional functionality). Given that, why should I still consider learning Java when there are seemingly simpler alternatives that don’t appear to sacrifice anything substantial in terms of capability, and only help you ship and create projects faster?
