Best Nav Bar Placement for Mobile and Desktop?

I'm building a website and trying to figure out the best place to put the navigation bar. Right now, I'm thinking about placing it on the middle left side of the screen. My idea is that on mobile, it's easier for people to tap things on the left side, since that's where their thumb naturally rests. But I'm not sure if that works well for desktop users. Maybe I could make the navigation show up as a sidebar on mobile, and switch to a more traditional layout for larger screens. What do you think would work best?
